  1 huge pot of water
1  ham bone
3 tsp black pepper (to taste)
1 tsp garlic powder (to taste)
2 tsp salt (to taste)
2 - 2 1/2 bags split peas (depends on the amt of water)
1 1/2  medium onion, chopped
1 1/2 - 2 Lbs carrots, sliced
7 stalks celery, chopped
  ham, chopped

In a large pot of water combine seasonings, ham bone and veggies. Cook, covered, over medium heat until the peas get mushy and disintegrate into the water, stirring occasionally. (If you don’t like your carrots mushy, wait about an hour to put them in.) It will take a few hours until the peas are completely integrated into the soup.

Remove the ham bone from soup. Remove any ham from bone and add it to the soup along with any ham you have leftover from your ham dinner to the soup.
