  White Bread

  2 packages Active Dry Yeast
1 Cup Warm Water
1/4 Cup Sugar
1 1/4 TBLS Salt
2 Whole Eggs, Beaten
1 Cup Milk
1/2 Cup Butter
1/4 Cup Shortening
6 1/2 Cups Flour
 
 
  1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. 
  2. Add Sugar, salt, and eggs.
  3. In a separate mixing bowl, place 6 1/2 cups flour, room tempurature butter and shortening.  Mix together with fingers.
  4. Add half of flour mixture to large mixing bowl, beat until smooth.
  5. Add remaining flour to form soft dough.
  6. Turn onto a floured surface, knead until smooth and elastic (6-8 minutes).
  7. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top.
  8. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled (about 1 hour).
  9. Punch dough down.
  10. Divide in half and shape into loaves.
  11. Place in two greased 9 x 5 x 3 loaf pans.
  12. Cover and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
